Town of Wallingford
On October 10, 1667 the Connecticut General Assembly authorized the “making of a village on the east river” to 38 planters and freemen. The “long highway” located on the ridge of the hill above the sandy plain along the Quinnipiac River is the present Main Street in Wallingford. On May 12, 1670 the bounds were set in the settlement and about 126 people settled in the Town in temporary housing. Six-acre lots were set out and by the year 1675, 40 houses stretched along the street. During the nineteenth century, Wallingford industry expanded with a considerable concentration of small pewter and Britannia ware manufacturers. By mid-century, Robert Wallace acquired the formula for nickel silver and established with Samuel Simpson, R. Wallace & Company the forerunner of Wallace Silversmiths. It was also during this period that many of the small silver and Britannia plants were combined to form the International Silver Company with its headquarters in Meriden and several plants in Wallingford. Wallingford was incorporated in 1670. A separate Borough of Wallingford was incorporated in 1853 but on June 3, 1957 the Borough and the Town voted to consolidate effective January 1, 1958. The present Town Charter created a Mayor-Council form of government in 1962.

The Town of North Haven has a diverse commercial tax base which includes large high tech, multi-national manufacturers as well as locally-owned and operated small manufacturers; distributors of food, aircraft parts and other industrial products; as well as both retail centers and small shops, entertainment, and restaurants of all sizes and ethnic styles.
North Haven is home to almost 1,500 highly diversified manufacturing and commercial firms, 175 of which have a combined assessed value of over $1,000,000. The Town has five industrial parks containing over 400 acres, and boast such corporate community members as Amazon, Medtronic, United Aluminum, Connecticut Container and O.F. Mossberg Firearms. The Mersick Industrial Park contains 35 acres, the Wharton Industrial Park contains 200 acres, the Leonardo Drive Industrial Park contains 70 acres; the Exit 10 Industrial Park contains 35 acres, and the Exit 9 Industrial Center containing 130 acres.
The Town also has many healthcare providers and is the home to Yale-New Haven Hospital Medical Center and Hartford Healthcare. We are also proud to be home to Quinnipiac University's graduate school campus, which includes Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Health Sciences and Quinnipiac's School of Law.
